The Colombian singer receives this award at Billboard’s Women in Latin Music Awards in Miami
Shakira, beyond a turbulent personal period, is enjoying a sweet professional moment.
The Colombian artist received the Woman of the Year award at Billboard’s Women in Latin Music Awards on Saturday, an event held at the Watsco Center in Miami, where the singer currently lives with her children.
Gerard Pique’s ex-partner received the award from Maluma and gave a speech that made headlines.
“There comes a time in every woman’s life when she no longer depends on someone to love or accept herself as she is,” she said.
“The search for the other is replaced by the search for oneself, when the desire to be perfect is replaced by the desire to be authentic.”
Shakira has reclaimed the figure of a more independent woman, something that has provoked a lot of applause in the Watsco Center.
“It is a year in which I have realised that women are much stronger than we think,” she continued.
“We are braver than we think we are. I think we are also more independent than we were taught to be.
“What woman hasn’t gone through the experience of looking for attention, affection or approval from others and forgotten about herself? It has happened to me.”
