Wren Rescues co-founder, Alissa Smith, was recently approached concerning four tiny kittens that were in dire need of adoption. The shelter in Downey, California where they were located was desperately trying to find assistance for these animals before they faced euthanization. With only 15 minutes remaining, and no one else available to take them in, a group of compassionate individuals stepped up and ensured their safe rescue. In a stroke of luck, a wonderful woman named CJ generously transported the kittens all the way to us in Ventura County, California.
A family of kittens and their mother were found in someone’s yard, but the mother quickly hurried away. Ashley, a resident rescuer, immediately started bottle-feeding them throughout the night. Jennifer Hurt, co-founder of the rescue center, took care of their feeding during the day.
Alissa put it this way: “The mother cat of these kittens showed great care for them. Usually, when kittens are orphaned and brought to shelters, they rarely get to see their mothers again. This is another strong reason to leave the kittens alone and wait for their mother instead of transporting them to a shelter.”
Ashley and Jennifer were fully prepared to take care of the kittens until they could be weaned, but then something remarkable occurred. The kind-hearted individuals who had rescued the kittens returned home to find the mother cat searching for her babies outside. Once she was captured, the cat was brought to a foster home the following day where she could be reunited with her precious kittens.
Following the heart-wrenching experience of misplacing her beloved kittens, affectionately named Spidey, the timid cat initially displayed resistance and hesitated to venture outside of her crate. However, everything changed when Ashley decided to introduce one of her puppies to Spidey. Witnessing this heartwarming interaction, the mother cat promptly gathered herself and willingly accompanied Ashley outside to reunite with her precious kittens.
